The Office of Federal Procurement Policy has been tasked to review the entire
Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) with the aims of:
Eliminating duplicative regs
Eliminating regs not established in law
Remove burdensome requirements
Develop straight-forward buyer guides
The FAR is more than 1,000 pages long, and consists of 52 Parts (sections). It is
codified in Title 48 of the Code of Federal Regulations.
Changes to the FAR are developed and approved by the FAR Council, consisting
of representatives assigned by GSA, NASA and DoD. Changes are posted to the
Federal Register before being implemented, and in general, must be posted for public
comment prior to being published as final rules. Consequently, it takes a long time to
make any change.
Regulations in the FAR are often clarified by departmental or agency
supplements. Consequently any changes to the FAR master document must
subsequently be implemented in the departmental supplements.
OFPP aims to complete its work in short order, perhaps using Artificial
Intelligence to correlate regs and laws and eliminate duplication.
You can participate in the rewrite by reviewing deviations as they are posted at
https://www.acquisition.gov/far-overhaul/far-part-deviation-guide and submitting
feedback to MBX.OMB.OFPPv2@OMB.eop.gov.
