Nothing like uncertainty as FY 23-24 begins October 1st. The federal shutdown may be gone for the moment, but the threat has just been pushed 45 days down the road. What impact might it still have on each of us?

It’s prudent to plan ahead. Here are a few tips to help prepare:

  • Review contracts and the Federal Acquisition Regulations which contain provisions for government shutdowns.
  • Communicate with your contracting officer to determine how the shutdown will affect your contracts.
  • Keep track of all costs associated with the shutdown as some costs may be recoverable.
  • Submit future offers by the designated time, even if the receiving office is closed.
  • Check your contract type (i.e., fixed price) to see if you can continue to perform work.

In times of chaos, there is opportunity. Major parts of the Federal government will continue to function, and it is an excellent time to fortify prime and subcontractor relationships.
